History

Bron Eifion Country House Hotel is the heart of a most beautiful estate situated one mile to the west of Criccieth, on the shores of Cardigan Bay, North Wales.

The house was built in 1883 as the summer residence of John Greaves, Slate Master, whose family pioneered the Llechwedd Slate Caverns, the Blaenau Ffestiniog Railway and the development of Porthmadog as a shipping terminal, from which his fleet of ships distributed slate to the markets of the world.

The house and gardens are a manifestation of a nineteenth century concept of gracious living. The central gallery is built of pitch pine set against Oregon Pine panelling of superb craftsmanship, and remains in a near perfect state of preservation.
